| Recent Workshops Sexual Needs Workshop
for Ronak Home, Palmers Green, London
 | A group of 13 support workers explored pro- and
re-active strategies for supporting residents with their sexual needs. |
| Staff realised the importance of not 'brushing
sexual issues under the carpet'; rather to address them head on, but with support for
themselves.. |
| The home manager, Carol Woodey, said she found
the content of the day 'extremely helpful'; 'All issues could have been discussed further,
because it led to other discussions/topics - but there is a "learning curve" and
time!'. |
| The staff group said they would welcome the
opportunity to do a follow-up day in a couple of months - once they've had a chance to try
out some of the ideas they explored on the day.

Challenging Behaviour Workshop
for Speciality Care Ltd. at a home near Colchester, Essex
| A group of 15 support workers explored pro- and
re-active strategies for supporting residents who present challenging behaviour. |
| Staff were inspired by the emphasis put on
supporting the emotional needs of residents, and of staff. |
| 'I've realised that we all deserve to give
ourselves a big pat on the back after each shift' noted one senior worker during the
workshop evaluation. |
| Other staff members recognised their own
frustrations in their role and vowed to take time to talk with each other about how they
feel supporting their clients in sometimes stressful circumstances. |
| Staff welcomed the opportunity to explore a
number of scenarios drawn from our experiences at Ability Focus |
